Novi Pazar is a very small town on the border of Serbia and Kosovo. It is a multicultural and multiethnic traditional place in the heart of the Balkans. It is also a trade centre especially famous for the best jeans in the country.
The “Maja in Novi Pazar” work was envisioned to be on a film roll made of jeans with attached photographs in passport format, in which the artist is in a situation of a happy tourists communicating with people, places and culture of Novi Pazar.
Photos were made in 2001, by Dragoljub Nikolovski at the Summer School of the University of Arts in Novi Pazar.
This work developed into two artworks:
“May in the Process of Jeans Production”
The work was completed at the children’s clothing factory “Stig” Konfekcija at the Summer School of the University of Arts in Novi Pazar.
In this act, my body was going through the whole process of industrial production of clothing:
– Marking parts for cutting
– Cutting of parts
The second work is a documented performance of endless removing of clothes, titled “Intro”.
